Truex Jr. Looks for Third Straight Pocono Win

June 26, 2018 – You can list Chicagoland Speedway as “my type of racetrack” for Martin Truex Jr., who will be seeking his third straight win at the 1.5-mile oval in Sunday’s Overton’s 400. Truex overcame adversity in both wins at Chicagoland Speedway when it was the opening race of the NASCAR playoffs. He managed to come back from a deflating tire in 2016 and a speeding penalty in 2017. “Yeah, I feel great about that -- going for three in a row at Chicago,” Truex said. “A little sad it’s not kicking off the playoffs anymore just because of our record there, but at the same time, great racetrack and excited to go there and see what we can do. We had to overcome some issues the past two years at Chicagoland and hopefully we will have a clean race on Sunday and be there at the end in [...]

Tasca Eager for New England Nats Competition

June 25, 2018 -- Everything is starting to go according to plan for Funny Car driver Bob Tasca III, and that could make for a memorable celebration when the Hope, R.I., native heads to New England Dragway for the sixth annual NHRA New England Nationals on July 6-8. Coming off his first final round of the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season at Bristol in his 10,000-horsepower Ford Performance Shelby Mustang, Tasca is thrilled with the progress his team has made in recent weeks. They have jumped into the top 10 in the loaded Funny Car class, and Tasca, who has returned to full-time competition for the first time since 2014, believes his team is building up to something big at a track where he made his first pass. “This is what I dreamed about,” said Tasca, who has four career wins. “I dreamed about being in a [...]

Hardeman Withdraws From IMSA GT3 Challenge

June 25, 2018 – Will Hardeman and the No. 19 CAG/Moorespeed Porsche GT3 Cup team will not compete in this weekend’s IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama races at Watkins Glen International due to a recent and unexpected family obligation that requires 100% of Hardeman’s focus. Moorespeed fully backs Hardeman’s decision and has shifted its attention from achieving success on the track with its team driver to doing everything possible to support Will and his family. Moorespeed has requested on their behalf that the team’s friends, fans and racing family keep the Hardemans in their thoughts and prayers and respect their privacy. No decision has been made regarding Hardeman’s competition plans beyond this weekend. In their fourth-year racing together in IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup, Hardeman and Moorespeed were having their best season to date in 2018. Hardeman earned his first series win in the season-opening weekend of competition [...]

June 24, 2018 --  Blake Alexander became the 105th different Top Fuel winner in NHRA history Sunday afternoon at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park. Matt Hagan (Funny Car), Tanner Gray (Pro Stock) and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) were also winners in their respective categories at the 12th of 24 events on the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule. Alexander’s 4.011-second pass at 297.81 mph in his Pronto Auto Service dragster to take down Terry McMillen and secure his first Top Fuel career victory. “It felt really good,” Alexander stated. “I got a little emotional because I’ve tried to do this my whole life. I’ve come close but have lost sponsors, thought I was never going to drive the car again and basically we have gone through everything to climb back to the top.” Alexander qualified 12th for the event and defeated Antron [...]

Newgarden Wins, Kanaan Falters at Road Anerica

June 24, 2018 -- A swing and a miss. Decisions made with the best of intentions did not work out as planned which resulted in the drivers having a tough day in the cockpit. Adding to the troubles, the team chose a strategy for Tony Kanaan that to truly succeed needed a full course caution and the race ran caution-free for the first time since 2000. However, all information is useful and the team will analyze the data to determine how to improve in the future. With Kanaan starting 18th, the team used an attack all day strategy—one of the few to do so—which meant four stops and running full rich on fuel. On the first lap he jumped from 18th to 13th which is where he ran until his first pit stop on lap 7 which dropped him back to 21st. As the leaders pitted seven laps later, he [...]

Truex Jr. Caps Sonoma Victory

June 24, 2018 – A fast race car, flawless driving and a pit-road audible sent Martin Truex Jr. to Victory Lane in Sunday’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 at the Sonoma Raceway road course. The victory was Truex’s third of the season, 18th of his career and his third career road course win. By winning at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International road circuit last year, Truex has now won the last two NASCAR Cup Series road races. The victory also gave Truex a California sweep. His first win of the season was in March at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. Truex, who led four times for a race high of 62 laps on the Sonoma road course, was running a close second to Kevin Harvick until it was time for the final scheduled pit stop in the 110-lap race. Furniture Row Racing crew chief Cole Pearn radioed Truex to pit on Lap 73, [...]

AJF Team Struggles, Newgarden on Pole

June 23, 2018 -- A.J Foyt’s team will have its work cut out for them in tomorrow’s Kohler Grand Prix at the picturesque Road America, a four-mile road course in eastern Wisconsin. Despite a positive practice Friday morning in the ABC Supply Chevrolets in which Tony Kanaan was sixth and Matheus ‘Matt’ Leist was 10th, the team struggled in the afternoon session, prompting some changes overnight. The morning session before this afternoon’s qualifying round indicated the changes didn’t work so the team regrouped. However in qualifying, both drivers still struggled with a persistent understeer. Kanaan posted a lap of one minute, 44.1165 seconds and will start 18th. He cited running into traffic on his quick lap as a contributing factor in his run. “I got traffic on my fast lap but it would have just put us in the top 13, not enough to advance,” Kanaan said. “The car is [...]

Millican Sets Top Fuel Track Speed Record

june 23, 2018 -- Clay Millican set the Top Fuel track speed record Saturday afternoon during the single round of qualifying due to inclement weather at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park. Courtney Force (Funny Car), Jeg Coughlin Jr. (Pro Stock) and Matt Smith (Pro Stock Motorcycle) are also No. 1 qualifiers in their respective categories at the 12th of 24 events on the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule. Millican powered to the top spot with a run of 3.750-seconds at 332.67 mph in his Parts Plus / Great Clips dragster during the lone qualifying session on Saturday. This is his sixth No. 1 qualifier on the season as he looks for his fourth career victory. “Our goal was to be in the top five,” Millican stated. “Once we did that, that allowed (crew chief) David Grubnic to get after it that last [...]

Dean II Sweeps Mazda MX-5 Cup

June 23, 2018 – John Dean II swept The Battery Tender Global Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich weekend at Road America with a second victory on Saturday, but his path to victory on Saturday was much more crowded than it was the day before.  Dean earned a flag-to-flag victory in Friday’s Round Five race, but the MX-5 Cup competition wasn’t about to let him do the same thing in Saturday’s Round Six. Though he started from pole in the No. 16 Sick Sideways Global Mazda MX-5 Cup entry and held his lead in the opening laps, it wasn’t long until he fell victim to the massive drafting potential presented by Road America’s 4.014 miles. “That was a tough battle,” Dean said. “I tried to do the same thing I did yesterday and run the same lines and same defensive technique, but obviously the other guys weren’t having it! It [...]
