Tight Competition at Le Mans

June 13, 2018, by Kay Presto, – Corvette Racing went as fast as it ever has in the GTE Pro category around the Circuit de la Sarthe on Wednesday in the first of three qualifying sessions for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He and Jan Magnussen placed third in last year’s GTE Pro race, and they will try for victory this year with Mike Rockenfeller. "Everything is still going to our predetermined plan," Garcia said. "The various slow zones in the beginning of the qualifying session didn’t help, of course. [...]

John Force Pays Tribute to Tom McEwen

June 13, 2018 -- Although the Sunday death of Tom “the Mongoose” McEwen at age 81 reverberated throughout the sport of drag racing, it hit few harder than it did John Force, the 16-time NHRA Funny Car champion. Force spoke at length with his PR representatives Elon Werner and Dave Densmore to collect his thoughts and feelings about McEwen. This is what he wanted us to share with the NHRA community  As recently as three to four weeks ago, McEwen had called Force to talk about a recent spate of engine explosions and crashes that had left the Hall of Fame team owner and driver battered, bruised and besieged  The conversation was typically candid.  “Force,” McEwen said, “are you trying to kill yourself?  Let’s talk, call me.”  It was the kind of conversation in which the two had engaged in for more than 40 years. “He could do that,” Force said.  “I know, [...]

Courtney Force Leads Funny Car Field

Photo Credit: Gary Nastase, Auto Imagery June 08, 2018 — Courtney Force and the Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car are the provisional leaders at the inaugural Virginia NHRA Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park outside of Richmond, Va. Robert Hight follows closely in the No. 2 spot, John Force rounds out the Funny Cars in sixth and Brittany Force is No. 2 in Top Fuel. Being in a new environment and encountering the warmest conditions so far this season have done nothing to deter Courtney Force and the Advance Auto Parts team, headed by crew chiefs Dan Hood and Brian Corradi. In both sessions, Force was quickest and, both times, overtook the No. 1 spot from teammate Robert Hight; first with her 4.058-second pass at 319.82 mph and then again with her 3.983-second pass at 323.35 mph. Force is the first and, currently, only Funny Car to race [...]

Foley Scores seventh in IMSA WeatherTech Debut June 7, 2018 -- With hundreds of passes completed in each race usually building up to razor-thin close finishes, racing in Battery Tender Global Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires competition quickly helps drivers improve both their speed and race craft. Building on those lessons, one young Global Mazda MX-5 Cup driver has grown his racing resume with a strong debut in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship this weekend in Detroit. Robby Foley, who claimed the Mazda Road to 24 $100,000 scholarship ahead of the 2016 Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires season, scored seventh in the Detroit Grand Prix this weekend in his first-ever GTD class outing. The result was a hard-fought one as the young Auburn University (engineering) student made his first-ever IMSA start on the concrete-lined circuit set on Detroit’s Belle Isle. "It was great [...]

Truex Jr. Eager for Strong Michigan Run

June 5, 2018 -- Martin Truex Jr. will most likely have an extra bounce in his step when he gets to Michigan International Speedway for Sunday’s Firekeepers Casino 400. The attributing factors for Truex’s uplifting attitude is that he is coming off a NASCAR Cup Series victory at Pocono Raceway along with his performances last year at Michigan’s 2.0-mile oval. “I felt we had the best car at the Michigan races last year but came away empty handed in the win column,” said Truex, who will drive the No. 78 Auto-Owners Insurance Toyota this weekend. “In fact if we circled races that we haven’t won at prior to the season Michigan would be high on the list. We really want this victory after what happened last year. It would also be nice to drive the blue car to Victory Lane since Auto-Owners Insurance is based in Lansing, Mich.” Truex finished [...]

Corvette Racing Ready for Le Mans

ckMay 30, 2018 –- Corvette Racing has made its annual venture across the Atlantic to Le Mans, France – for the 19th consecutive year – ahead of this year’s running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. First up: Sunday’s Test Day at the 8.47-mile Circuit de la Sarthe for eight hours of track time ahead of the French endurance classic. It is the only time that Corvette Racing – and the other 59 teams entered for Le Mans – will get on the track ahead of raceweek from June 13-17. It may seem like plenty of time to run through a test program, but eight hours goes by quickly on such a long track, not to mention cycling through each of the drivers during the day. The Corvette Racing team has been diligent in its preparation for this year’s race after finishing third in the GTE Pro category in [...]
